Characterization Study for Nanocompositions of Methylene Blue and Riboflavin-Nafion on the Electrode Surface

Nafion is a perfluorinated anionic polyelectrolyte. The increasing popularity of nafion for the fabrication of redox polymer modified electrodes in recent years arises from easy fabrication, good electrical conductivity and high partition coefficients of many redox compounds in nafion. To investigate the production of nano-compositions by mixing electron transfer material and nafion polyme...

Biomimetic Membranes for Multi-Redox Center Proteins.

His-tag technology was applied for biosensing purposes involving multi-redox center proteins (MRPs). An overview is presented on various surfaces ranging from flat to spherical and modified with linker molecules with nitrile-tri-acetic acid (NTA) terminal groups to bind his-tagged proteins in a strict orientation. The bound proteins are submitted to in situ dialysis in the presence of lipid mic...

Bioenergetics at the gold surface: SEIRAS probes photosynthetic and respiratory reactions at the monolayer level.

The present study surveys a novel approach to studies of membrane proteins whose catalytic action is driven by the redox potential or by the membrane potential. We introduce SEIRAS (surface-enhanced IR absorption spectroscopy) to probe a monolayer of membrane protein adhered to the surface of a gold electrode. SEIRAS renders high surface sensitivity by enhancing the signal of the adsorbed molec...

High Resolution Structure of the ba3 Cytochrome c Oxidase from Thermus thermophilus in a Lipidic Environment

The fundamental chemistry underpinning aerobic life on Earth involves reduction of dioxygen to water with concomitant proton translocation. This process is catalyzed by members of the heme-copper oxidase (HCO) superfamily. Despite the availability of crystal structures for all types of HCO, the mode of action for this enzyme is not understood at the atomic level, namely how vectorial H(+) and e...
